Explore the iwi, places and whakapapa of Aotearoa with this collection of 12 iwi pepeha resources spanning Niu Tīreni and Wharekauri. These resources have been developed to support kaiako in building their understanding of iwi, rohe, whenua and the connections between people and place. The collection provides a valuable starting point for learning about the tangata whenua connected to different parts of Aotearoa.

About the resource
Understanding the iwi and rohe of Aotearoa is an important
part of developing culturally responsive and locally relevant practice. This
collection provides kaiako with a selection of iwi pepeha and supporting
information from across Niu Tīreni and Wharekauri.
The resources explore the connections between mountains, rivers, lakes, seas, waka, iwi, hapū and people, helping to illustrate how pepeha can express relationships with whenua and whakapapa. For example, the Waikato/Pare Hauraki resource includes pepeha connecting iwi with their maunga, awa, moana and waka, alongside information about the Tainui rohe and Waikato reo-ā-iwi.
These resources can be used for professional learning, curriculum planning, local curriculum development and conversations with tamariki, whānau and colleagues.
