About the course
Communication is so important in child development that it takes up a whole strand in Te Whāriki and one of the recommendations within this is that 'Adults should have realistic expectations of children's language development and help to identify assistance if language delays are observed’.
This course explores the normal development of communication.
You will explore what is normal and what leads to normal development and how the development of communication interacts within a context of development. You will gain more in depth knowledge of what communication is and what makes up communication. Finally we explore in depth the expected trajectory of normal development of communication from 0-5 to help you better be able to describe and identify the communication skills of the children that you teach and care for and what to expect as they move through their developmental steps.
