About the course

As an early educator you know and understand the importance of play and pretend play and you understand that it is important to children's development.
This course allows you time to reflect on and build upon this knowledge, specifically on your knowledge of pretend play. We will refresh ourselves on what pretend play is and why it is important including looking at what some of the research has to say. We will explore the development of pretend play from infants to the school years and ways to assess and observe where a child is in their development of pretend play including links to some formal assessment tools. Finally you will learn to facilitate pretend play using your knowledge of the development of pretend play and using environments and strategies that enable children to develop their pretend play skills.
