About the Podcast

In this episode, Donna Stichbury, Relationship Facilitator, is joined by her mentor Donna Berry, creator of Interplay, to explore the vital role of attachment and connection in helping Tamariki thrive in education and life. Together, they discuss how children’s behaviour is not the problem, but the message, and why adults need to understand their own patterns and nervous system responses to support children effectively.

They share insights on how caregivers, parents, and teachers can respond to challenging behaviour with calm, presence, and understanding, helping children feel safe even in moments of fear. Drawing on decades of experience, this conversation highlights the power of relationships, self-awareness, and embodied practice in creating environments where Tamariki can truly flourish.

Together, Donna Berry, creator of Interplay and experienced mentor, and Donna Stichbury, relationship facilitator and InsideOUT developer, bring complementary expertise to help adults understand themselves, support children, and foster safe, connected environments for Tamariki.

COURSE FACILITATOR
DONNA STICHBURY

Donna Stichbury is a trauma-informed, attachment-aware educator and facilitator who helps adults heal core wounds so they can show up fully for the children and communities in their care. Drawing on decades of personal experience, somatic regulation, and relational repair, Donna meets people where they are in body, mind, and heart. Through her signature InsideOUT framework, she guides parents, educators, and caregivers to recognise triggers, release hidden stress, repair relational ruptures, and build lasting self and relational security. Her approach is experiential, embodied, and relational. Adults develop the internal resources to stay present, meet their own needs, and model healthy attachment in real life. Donna is a mother, teacher, certified attachment coach, Circle of Security facilitator, Stuart Shanker Self-Reg facilitator, Senior Interplay facilitator approved on Donna Berry’s supervisor list, and studied  The Pikler approach for the past seven years in Budapest. She is currently completing her thesis with The Pikler Institute, The Misunderstood Child and the Healing Adult, integrating her personal journey with rigorous research on attachment, autonomy, and relational healing. This combination of lived experience, professional expertise, and academic inquiry makes her approach uniquely integrative and transformative.

DONNA BERRY

Donna Berry is the creator of Interplay International and the Cee-It app, and has spent over 30 years walking alongside children and families as a social worker, play therapist, family therapist, and supervisor. Her work has always been guided by one simple but profound truth: behaviour is not the problem  it is the message.

This understanding grew not only through her professional life, but through her own lived experience of family, motherhood, and witnessing how deeply children are affected by what happens in their relationships. Again and again, Donna saw that beneath every child’s behaviour was a story waiting to be understood and that when adults could slow down enough to see it, something powerful shifted.

Interplay was born from this place. It offers a way of putting words to what children and families often cannot yet say, creating safety, connection, and healing through relationship. This same vision led to the creation of the Cee-It app, designed to help parents, teachers, and caregivers see beneath behaviour in real time.

Donna’s work continues to centre on helping adults understand themself and the child in front of them and in doing so, helping children feel safer, seen, and supported in the moments they need it most.
